Here are some photos of the bulletin board my co-teachers and I made for our students this summer. The whole thing was actually even better: as part of our theme, every student had a car that was used for attendance, but also represented the rewards they were getting for putting in strong effort in the academic arena and for proper behavior. As they earned “scholar dollars,” they were able to buy additions for their cars that individualized them, and of which they were extremely proud. When we first unveiled the bulletin board, we had affixed their cars to the board.
Our board was chosen as one of the top 3 in our school
!
- "Who is behind the wheel in room 303 on the road to success?"
- Students drew self-portraits of themselves, and wrote small descriptions of themselves, which we used to make sure that each student was represented inside the school bus. The student who was absent on the day when we made the self-portraits had previous written about his desire to be a bus driver when he grew up, and so we placed that piece of written work at the "driver's seat" of the bus.
